I am the Other

This is a science fiction film: a certain “consciousness” made by virtual data wants to transform itself to an existential “human being”. In order to achieve this purpose, it has to make another individual to give up his own “identity” – a social identity elaborated by the other.
Different types of images are captured in real life: surveillance cameras above the beach in Nice, images furtively filmed at the embassy of China in Marseille plus the burning passport. Thus, political and ideological factors are diluted in another fictitious world. The title "I am the Other", an aphorism written by the French writer Gerard de Nerval, is not less convoluted than Rimbaud's " I is another". The latter brings up a question that the artist has conceived in his mind: is the ego, more specifically the " I ", simply a " process " which goes eternally towards others? How could the " I " individually exist amongst all identities given by society or others. |
